This asparagus tart uses store-bought puff pastry and garlic and herb cheese and turns them into an impressive spring appetizer or entree. 

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

6.5 ounces garlic & herb soft spreadable cheese (like Boursin or Alouette)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

salt and pepper to taste

1 bunch asparagus (woody ends trimmed)

balsamic glaze, optional for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place a sheet of puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out with a rolling pin until its about 10 x1 3-inches. Place it onto the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Prick the puff pastry all over with a fork.
  4. In a medium bowl mix together the garlic and herb cheese, Dijon, shredded Swiss, salt and pepper.
  5. Spread the cheese mixture over the puff pastry, leaving about an inch border around the edge. 
  6. Arrange the asparagus over the cheese mixture (either in a straight line or a diagonal, or you can cut them. up to make a different pattern).
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the asparagus is cooked.
  8. Slice into squares and drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired. Serve.
