  • 1/2 cup butter room temperature
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp hot water
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips


  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Beat in the egg, then add in the vanilla and salt.
  • Dissolve the baking soda in hot water. Add the baking soda mixture to the batter.
  • Add the flour to the batter and mix well. Fold in the chocolate chips until well combined.
  • Drop dough by large spoonfuls onto un-greased cookie sheets.Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
