Cheesy Herb Beer Bread

Now that a majority of people are social distancing at home, and doing their best to stay inside, baking seems to have soared in popularity. My Instagram feed is filled with pictures of baked goods, and the most popular thing people seem to be baking is bread. So much so that yeast has been sold out everywhere I have looked for it. I don’t know why suddenly everyone started baking bread specifically, but this made me really excited to get in on the bread baking trend as well. Without yeast I was worried I wouldn’t be able to try crafting any recipes.

Luckily, there are plenty of breads out there that don’t need yeast, and beer bread might be the tastiest one. It is incredibly easy, quick and yummy. All the ingredients for this were already in my pantry, which made it even easier to make. I’ve baked a lot of things in my life, but never tried beer bread before, and on my first try it turned out perfectly. I think this beer bread might even be the most delicious thing I’ve ever baked. You can also use the base recipe to swap out some of the herbs or add things like olives, jalapeĂąos, apples, or anything else you can think of.

Cheesy Herb Beer Bread

A delicious bread made with beer, cheese and herbs
Prep Time15 minutes
Cook Time1 hour
Total Time1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups White Flour sifted
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 12oz can of beer I used an IPA from Two Roads Brewing Company called Cloud Sourced Hazy Juicy IPA, but any beer will work
  • 1/4 cup butter

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Generously grease a large bread pan.
  • Sift the flour into a large bowl (dont forget this step, otherwise your bread will be very dense and hard!), combine the sifted flour with baking powder, salt and sugar. Add in minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning and cheeses. Lightly mix together with a spoon.
  • Slowly pour in the beer and let it sit for a couple of minutes (2-3). After the dough has absorbed the liquid for a few minutes, mix the batter with a spoon until all the beer has been incorporated into the dough, all ingredients are combined, and the dough is a thick consistency.
  • Pour the dough into the greased bread pan. Melt the butter, and pour the melted butter onto the top of the bread dough.
  • Cook for 50-60 minutes in the oven, until the top of the bread is golden and the loaf is firm to the touch.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes. Serve warm, and make it taste even better with a little butter on it!
